High-Velocity Premium Dove Hunting Ammunition

Rio Bluesteel Dove Loads are engineered for hunters who demand maximum performance from their 12 gauge shotgun. The 1350 fps velocity is among the fastest available in factory 1-ounce 12 gauge loads, providing a significantly flatter shooting trajectory and reduced lead on fast-moving and high-flying doves. The #7 shot size offers larger pellets than traditional #7.5 or #8 loads, delivering increased energy and better penetration while maintaining excellent pattern density at typical dove hunting ranges. This combination makes the Rio Bluesteel an outstanding choice for pass shooting and when hunting doves at longer distances.

Technical Specifications

Why Choose Rio Bluesteel Dove Load #7 Shotshells?

Rio’s Bluesteel line is positioned as a premium offering that delivers high-velocity performance without the excessive recoil often associated with magnum loads. The 1350 fps velocity gives hunters a distinct advantage when doves are flying high or crossing at longer ranges. The #7 shot size strikes an excellent balance between pellet count and individual pellet energy, providing better terminal performance than smaller shot while still creating dense patterns. Hunters who frequently shoot at extended distances or in windy conditions will appreciate the flatter trajectory and increased energy of these loads. Rio has built a reputation for producing reliable, high-quality ammunition, and the Bluesteel Dove Load series continues that tradition with consistent performance from box to box.

Ideal Applications

The Rio Bluesteel Dove Load 12ga shotshells are optimized for mourning dove hunting, particularly in situations involving high-flying or fast-moving birds. The high velocity and #7 shot make these loads especially effective for pass shooting and when hunting over large fields where longer shots are common. These shells also perform very well on other upland game such as quail, snipe, and woodcock when maximum energy is desired. They function reliably in semi-automatic, pump-action, and over/under shotguns. Whether you’re hunting in a large dove field with multiple hunters or walking scattered birds, the DLBS287 delivers the speed and performance needed for success on challenging shots.

Performance and Ballistics

With a muzzle velocity of 1350 feet per second, these Rio Bluesteel shotshells offer one of the flattest trajectories available in a 1-ounce 12 gauge load. The #7 shot provides approximately 350 pellets per shell, creating dense yet effective patterns that remain lethal at extended ranges. Rio’s advanced wad and powder formulation helps maintain tight patterns while controlling recoil despite the high velocity. Hunters report excellent consistency, reliable ignition, and uniform performance throughout the box. The combination of high speed and the larger #7 pellet size makes the Rio Bluesteel Dove Load an outstanding choice for hunters who want maximum performance from their 12 gauge shotgun.
