Premium 12 Gauge Dove Hunting Ammunition
Rio Dove Loads are engineered to provide the ideal balance of pattern density and pellet energy for mourning doves and other small upland game birds. Why Choose Rio Dove Load Shotshells?
Rio Ammunition has built a strong reputation for producing high-quality, affordable shotshells that perform reliably in the field. The Dove Load series is specifically formulated for the demands of dove hunting, where fast-flying birds and high shot volumes are common. These shells provide excellent pattern consistency thanks to Rio’s quality control and premium components. The 1 oz payload of #8 shot strikes an ideal balance between pellet density and energy, giving hunters the best chance of clean, ethical harvests. Additionally, the 1250 fps velocity offers a good compromise between speed and recoil, making these loads comfortable to shoot throughout a long day of hunting.
Ideal Applications
The Rio Dove Load 12ga shotshells are primarily designed for mourning dove hunting, but they are also highly effective for other small upland game such as quail, snipe, and woodcock. The #8 shot size provides excellent pattern coverage at typical dove hunting ranges of 20 to 40 yards. These shells perform well in both semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns, as well as over/under and side-by-side doubles. Whether you’re hunting over a dove field with multiple hunters or walking fields for scattered birds, the Rio Dove Loads deliver reliable performance and consistent results.
Performance and Ballistics
With a muzzle velocity of 1250 feet per second, these Rio shotshells offer a flat trajectory and reduced lead requirements on crossing targets. The 1-ounce payload of #8 shot provides approximately 410 pellets per shell, creating dense patterns that increase the likelihood of multiple pellet strikes on fast-moving doves. The shells are loaded with clean-burning powder and high-quality wads that help maintain tight patterns while minimizing felt recoil. Hunters consistently report reliable ignition and consistent performance from box to box, making the Rio Dove Load an excellent choice for both new and experienced dove hunters.
