Rio Star Team Evo Spreader Shotshells 20ga 2-3/4" 7/8 oz #8.5 – 25 Round Box | STSP2085
The Rio Star Team Evo Spreader Shotshells are specially designed competition loads engineered to produce wide, consistent shot patterns at shorter ranges. Model STSP2085 features a 20 gauge 2-3/4" shell loaded with 7/8 ounces of #8.5 shot at a velocity of 1250 feet per second. These spreader shells are an excellent choice for sporting clays shooters who frequently encounter close-range targets or who prefer a wider pattern for increased forgiveness on fast-breaking clays.
Specialized 20 Gauge Spreader Loads
Rio developed the Star Team Evo Spreader series to give competitive shooters an advantage on close and medium-range targets. Unlike standard target loads that produce tight patterns, spreader shells are formulated to open up the shot pattern more quickly. This makes them particularly effective in sporting clays where many targets are presented at shorter distances. The #8.5 shot size offers a high pellet count while still providing enough energy to break clays cleanly, and the 7/8 ounce payload keeps recoil mild for comfortable high-volume shooting.

Why Choose Rio Star Team Evo Spreader Shotshells?
The Rio Star Team Evo Spreader line gives competitive shooters a specialized tool for certain target presentations. In sporting clays, many stations feature close, fast-breaking targets where a tight pattern can actually work against the shooter. The spreader design helps open the pattern earlier, increasing the chance of breaking the target even with slight aiming errors. The 20 gauge platform offers noticeably less recoil than 12 gauge, making these shells comfortable for extended shooting sessions. The combination of the #8.5 shot size and spreader wad technology produces wide, even patterns that are highly effective on close to medium-range clays.
Ideal Applications
These 20 gauge spreader shells are particularly well-suited for sporting clays shooters who encounter a high percentage of close-range targets. They are also popular among skeet shooters and those who participate in games or formats that reward wider patterns. Many competitive shooters keep a box of spreader loads in their bag specifically for stations where targets are presented inside 25 yards. The mild recoil of the 20 gauge combined with the 7/8 ounce payload makes these shells easy to shoot all day without fatigue. Recreational shooters who enjoy sporting clays will also appreciate the forgiving nature of these wide-pattern loads.
