The Spyderco Temperance Trainer FB05TRD is a purpose-built training version of Spyderco’s popular Temperance fixed blade knife. Designed specifically for safe, realistic self-defense and martial arts training, this trainer features a blunt, rounded blade that allows practitioners to safely practice drawing, gripping, and deploying techniques without the risk of injury associated with live blades.
Why Choose the Spyderco Temperance Trainer?
The Temperance was originally developed by self-defense expert Michael Janich as a compact, powerful fixed blade knife. The Trainer version maintains the exact same handle ergonomics, balance, and overall dimensions as the live blade model, allowing users to train with a knife that feels and handles identically to the real thing. This makes it an essential tool for law enforcement officers, military personnel, martial artists, and civilians who want to develop safe and effective knife skills. The bright red handle and blunt blade clearly identify it as a training tool, reducing the chance of confusion during practice sessions.

Performance and Build Quality
The Spyderco Temperance Trainer FB05TRD is built to the same high standards as Spyderco’s live blade fixed knives. The red FRN handle provides excellent durability and a secure grip during dynamic training drills. Because the blade is intentionally blunt and rounded, users can safely practice full-speed techniques, including draws from the sheath, grip changes, and controlled contact with training partners. The trainer maintains the same weight and balance as the production Temperance, ensuring that muscle memory developed during training transfers directly to the live blade version. This level of realism is critical for developing proper technique and confidence in self-defense applications. The Temperance Trainer is an essential piece of equipment for anyone serious about learning and practicing knife skills safely and effectively.
